WANDI VALLEY

KITCHEN DESIGN AND REMODELLED LIVING SPACES

Stage two renovations for a historic 1908 farmhouse in Victoria’s High Country.

Nestled in the tranquil surroundings of a two-acre nut orchard in Wandiligong, just a short distance from Bright, the rustic Wandi Valley exuded rustic charm was prime for a makeover. While the first round of renovations in 2020 brought new life to the guest accommodation wing, the original farmhouse needed urgent attention due to a termite problem. This prompted a thorough restoration process, where the structure was carefully taken apart down to its foundations, revealing bare earth in some areas, before being rebuilt.

Despite the daunting task at hand, the team at Britt White Studio embarked on a mission to ensure the historical significance of Wandi Valley, one of the area's oldest residences, remained. With a commitment to preserving the farmhouse's exterior, the modernisation efforts focused on revamping the interior spaces. The result? A blend of timeless tradition and contemporary flair, injecting fresh energy into every corner: from the new kitchen and adjacent dining area to the cosy living spaces, lounge, study, master bedroom, foyer and home office.

The highlight of the renovation undoubtedly lies in the new kitchen, serving as the hub of the home. The redesigned kitchen boasts custom cabinetry housing modern integrated appliances, complemented by engineered stone countertops, brass shadow lines and handles on both the main counter and island. Bathed in natural light streaming through the original stained glass windows, the pristine white palette is accentuated by brushed brass tapware and a mosaic backsplash of handcrafted Moroccan tiles in shades of green and white. A standout feature? A floor-to-ceiling custom wine rack, paying homage to the owners' interest in wine.

The warm ambience of the kitchen extends seamlessly into the open-plan dining and lounge areas, where a lowered ceiling adds intimacy. Positioned in front of a newly installed vertical fireplace—a necessity for chilly mountain winters—a bespoke piece by Whipps Design celebrates the property's heritage, local wildlife and the owners' love of skiing. Completing the scene, a memory wall adds a personal touch to the space.

Here, echoes of the past blend with contemporary comforts, creating an inviting atmosphere filled with charm and character. Designed and crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail, it is poised to withstand the test of time, remaining a symbol of Morses Creek Valley's heritage for generations to come.
